EU Council recommends 2026 reforms for Czechia

The Council of the European Union has recommended economic, social, employment, structural and budgetary policy actions for Czechia for 2026 and 2027.

• The recommendation covers fiscal policy, defence spending, public spending efficiency, capital markets, innovation, energy, climate resilience, labour market participation, and education.
• It urges Czechia to continue adhering to net expenditure growth limits set on 21 January 2025, while using the national escape clause for defence-related flexibility and keeping energy price measures temporary and targeted.
• It also calls for faster rollout of renewable energy, modernization of electricity grids, implementation of all Electricity Data Center functions, and reforms to improve housing, municipal governance, R&D, and skills.
