EU Digital Decade report: Ireland progress and recommendations

The European Commission publishes an annex to the State of the Digital Decade 2026 assessing Ireland’s digital progress and setting recommendations.

• Main announcement: The Commission’s annex documents Ireland’s national roadmap and progress: Ireland has set 11 national targets (out of 14), 91% aligned with EU 2030 targets; 47% of roadmap measures end by end-2026, with a total public budget of EUR 535 million associated to those measures. The annex also states Ireland is allocating 33% of its RRP to digital (EUR 0.3 billion) and EUR 0.04 billion (4%) of cohesion policy funding to digital measures.
• Background and other details: The annex notes Ireland’s strengths (high fixed connectivity, basic digital skills, dynamic ICT ecosystem), Ireland’s participation in EU projects (member of the Alliance for Language Technologies EDIC and the Local Digital Twins/CitiVERSE EDIC; participating state in IPCEI on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies; participant in EuroHPC JU and Chips JU), and gives concrete recommendations on digital skills, e-health, SME digitalisation, cybersecurity, connectivity & resilience, semiconductors, and green-digital alignment.
