The European Commission has published its 2027 work programme, setting out the EU’s legislative and policy priorities for the year ahead.
- The programme focuses on competitiveness, climate, defence, digital policy, social rights, migration, and enlargement, and says the Commission will deliver, implement and enforce key proposals already on the table.
- It says the Commission will pursue measures such as a European Corporation on Critical Raw Materials, a European Water Initiative, a European Care Deal, a blueprint for action in five sectors of industrial AI, and a review of the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles; it also states that the existing simplification agenda could save EUR 22.3 billion per year in recurrent administrative costs once fully implemented.
