IPMA inaugurates Hub Azul Oeiras Mar ocean research hub

The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) inaugurated the Hub Azul – Polo Oeiras Mar, a new ocean research, innovation and entrepreneurship infrastructure funded under the PRR as part of the Hub Azul Portugal project.

• Main announcement: The Hub Azul – Polo Oeiras Mar has been inaugurated by IPMA as the first completed infrastructure of the Hub Azul Portugal project; the Rede Colaborativa para a Tecnologia Oceânica / Polo Oeiras Mar component represents an investment superior to €4 million, financed by the PRR, and the overall Hub Azul project investment is €15.7 million.
• Details & scope: The facility includes an ocean robotics test tank, specialized workshops (mechanical, electromechanical, electronics), start-up installation and support spaces for ocean robotics and instrumentation, exhibition/museum and library spaces, storage for biological and geological reference collections, and access to high-performance supercomputing systems; the project is part of national commitments linked to marine protected areas and oceanographic campaigns (including Madeira and Azores regions).
