KIT puts HoreKa 2 supercomputer into operation

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has announced that it has put the HoreKa 2 supercomputer into operation.

  • The new system was commissioned on Friday, September 25, 2026 at KIT Campus North and is intended to support research in climate, materials, particle physics, energy, mobility, and AI.
  • HoreKa 2 has more than 42,000 processor cores, 300 AI accelerators, and a planned peak performance of around 33 petaFLOPS; the facility cost is EUR 17 million and it uses hot-water cooling with campus power supplied 100 percent from renewables, plus cogeneration and photovoltaics.
