KMW marks 95 years and expands Mainz energy hub

Kraftwerke Mainz-Wiesbaden AG · October 15, 2026 · ✓ verified

KMW has announced its 95-year anniversary and outlined plans to further develop its Ingelheimer Aue site into an integrated energy hub.

  • The company says the site will combine power generation, storage, district heating, and digital infrastructure, including the Green Rocks data center with Green Mountain, a planned large battery storage system, and a planned large heat pump.
  • KMW says the heat pump should use the data center’s waste heat for the Mainz district heating network; a new engine power plant is also planned to supply the public grid and back up the data center’s emergency power. The new plant will initially run on natural gas, with a later switch to hydrogen technically planned but dependent on availability, infrastructure, and economic conditions.
