South Africa appoints Nyati to continue Eskom chairpersonship

South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has announced that Dr Mteto Nyati will continue serving as Chairperson of the Eskom Board.

• The appointment is framed as providing continuity while Eskom moves from generation recovery to a longer-term strategy focused on energy security, a financially sound utility, and better service.
• The Minister also outlined shareholder expectations for Eskom 2.0, including a single roadmap over the next three, five and ten years, grid expansion, new generation planning, and a role for AI in losses, forecasting and grid management.
