Stony Brook researcher highlights AI grid innovation

Stony Brook University researcher Hendrik Hamann highlighted how AI can help modernize and operate the U.S. electric grid at the inaugural U.S. Department of Energy Genesis Mission Summit.

• Hamann delivered the keynote presentation, “How AI Is Transformative for the U.S. Electric Grid,” at the July 22 summit at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.
• He said AI-based grid foundation models can help evaluate billions of scenarios, and that data center interconnection studies that once took months or years can now be done in minutes.
• The summit launched the first round of funded projects for the DOE Genesis Mission and included the announcement of six inaugural awards involving Stony Brook researchers.
