Sweden Digital Decade 2026: AI, connectivity and skills

The European Commission published the Sweden annex to the State of the Digital Decade 2026 communication, assessing Sweden’s digital performance and national roadmap.

• Main announcement: The Commission report summarises Sweden’s updated Digital Decade national roadmap (submitted 24 February 2026) which lists 68 measures with a total budget of EUR 3.55 billion (of which EUR 2.89 billion is public funding, ~0.49% of Sweden’s 2025 GDP). The roadmap states that 46% of measures will end by end-2026, with EUR 1.18 billion public budget associated to those measures.
• Background and details: The annex highlights connectivity and AI ambitions, reporting FTTP at 85.6%, basic 5G coverage at 98.6%, and notes Sweden’s AI strategy (Feb 2026) aiming “to be one of the top ten global leaders in AI”. It also reports digital funding allocations: EUR 0.6 billion in the Recovery and Resilience Plan for digital, and EUR 0.2 billion under cohesion policy; and cites rising per-building fibre connection support (SEK 80 643 in 2025 vs SEK 36 749 in 2022).
