WRI issued a statement reacting to the COP31 Presidency of Türkiye’s release of the Antalya Artificial Intelligence Pledge on 2026-10-27.
- WRI’s Chief Data and AI Officer Evan Tachovsky said the pledge should turn climate ambition into accountability, citing AI’s impact on data centers, electricity, water, and communities.
- The statement says the pledge is a useful starting point but lacks accountability mechanisms, community engagement commitments, and safeguards for water and air quality; it calls for clean energy for data centers, full disclosure of AI companies’ energy and water use, and companies to pay for their own grid upgrades.
- WRI also noted the pledge’s support for finance and infrastructure for AI to strengthen climate action, especially in developing countries, and said the first stocktake at COP32 could drive stronger accountability.
