UK approves Five Estuaries offshore wind farm project

The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted development consent for the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm, a >300MW project including offshore turbines and grid connection infrastructure.

  • Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm Ltd submitted the application on 25 March 2024, it was accepted for examination on 23 April 2024, underwent a six‑month examination, and received development consent following the Examining Authority’s recommendation to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero on 18 June 2025; the project includes offshore wind turbines, offshore/onshore substations, and export cables connecting into the National Grid.
  • This is the 103rd energy application (of 170 examined to date) determined under the Planning Act 2008, completed within statutory timescales, with local communities, local authorities, statutory consultees and interested parties able to participate, and all decision documents published on the National Infrastructure Planning project pages; the formal decision was taken by Minister Alan Whitehead on behalf of the Secretary of State.
