UK imposes anti-subsidy duties on Chinese fibre cables

The UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade has imposed a definitive anti-subsidy (countervailing) duty on optical fibre cables from the People’s Republic of China under the Taxation (Cross-border Trade) Act 2018, following a recommendation by the Trade Remedies Authority.

  • The measure applies definitive anti-subsidy duty to optical fibre cables originating in China, implemented under s.13(2) and paragraph 20(5)(a) of Schedule 4 of the 2018 Act after acceptance of the TRA recommendation.
  • On 22 December 2025, additional codes in ‘Table 1’ were updated to ensure consistency across both anti-dumping and countervailing duties; the notice was first published on 23 October 2023 by the Department for Business and Trade.
