The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan has opened applications for the “GX Strategic Area System” to support advanced decarbonization-focused industrial cluster projects by local governments and companies.
- Call for proposals runs from 23 December 2025 to 13 February 2026 (17:00) for three regional types: (1) brownfield/complex revitalization, (2) data center concentration, and (3) decarbonized power-based GX industrial parks, aiming to form new GX industrial clusters leveraging industrial complexes, brownfields, and low‑carbon power sources.
- The scheme follows the GX2040 Vision (Cabinet decision, February) and the creation of the GX Strategic Area System in August, refined based on 199 proposals from municipalities and businesses; it promotes GX-type industrial agglomeration and “watt–bit linkage” (integrated power and telecom infrastructure), and is organized into three regional selection types plus a separate (4) decarbonized power regional contribution type for project-level selection.
