OVHcloud launches Public VCF as-a-Service migration offering for customers

OVHcloud has announced a migration program to move impacted customers from Managed VMware vSphere to Public VCF (VMware Cloud Foundation) as-a-Service.

• Main announcement:OVHcloud will migrate customers from Managed VMware vSphere to Public VCF as-a-Service, providing a cost-effective shared infrastructure, a fully automated orchestration stack (based on Golang and the open-source Zpod project), and a price freeze for 9-12 months while migration occurs. The migration workflow includes pre-checks, customer context creation (VXLAN/VLAN, NFS), vMotion-based migration execution, and final validation (Public IP, health checks, affinity rules).
• Background and details: The action responds to Broadcom/VMware’s switch from vRAM to per physical core (pCore) licensing; OVHcloud segmented customers (simple footprints, Microsoft-licensed, heavy NSX, vSAN/HCI) to tailor migrations, preserves network/software topologies, supports hot vMotion and real-time storage mapping, and will introduce License Portability (BYOL) and a managed VCF 9 offering (including a stretched cluster in alpha). Datacenters cited are in Europe and Canada and compliant with GDPR, ISO/IEC 27000, SecNumCloud.
