Hydrogen power generation solution launched for data centres
US-based Modern Hydrogen and Mesa Solutions have formed a strategic partnership to provide a hydrogen power solution for data centres. Their solution utilizes Mesa’s new genset running on 100% hydrogen, combined with Modern Hydrogen’s technology that converts natural gas into hydrogen and carbon solids. The modular and scalable solution aims to improve on-site energy generation for data centres while leveraging existing natural gas infrastructure to minimize costs.

Meta, Zelestra Sign 4 New Renewable Energy Deals, Expanding U.S. Solar Portfolio
US-based Meta and Zelestra have expanded their clean energy partnership by signing four new Environmental Attribute Purchase Agreements (EAPAs) in Texas, totaling 720 MWdc of solar projects. These projects will help power Meta’s data centers with 100% renewable energy and contribute to Zelestra’s growing U.S. renewable portfolio. Since April 2024, Meta and Zelestra have closed six EAPAs totaling 800 MWac, marking a significant increase in renewable energy investments.

Biden vows to speed permitting for data centers, clean energy
The US President Joe Biden issued an executive order to accelerate the construction of AI data centers and clean energy infrastructure. The Department of Energy and Department of Defense will select federal sites for gigawatt-scale data centers, while the Department of the Interior will identify land for clean energy infrastructure. Developers must use clean energy to match data center needs. The order aims to expedite permitting and transmission development, prioritizing clean energy and responsible nuclear energy deployment. Examples of recent data center projects include a $1 billion Microsoft data center in Indiana, an $800 million Meta data center in Alabama, and a $630 million digital data center in Northern Virginia.
