Moment Energy opens world's largest EV battery repurposing megafactory

Moment Energy has officially opened Megafactory 1 in Vancouver on June 23, 2026, bringing the world’s largest EV battery repurposing facility online.

• Megafactory 1 opened on June 23, 2026: the facility will transform retired EV batteries into battery energy storage systems (BESS), is expected to produce 1 GWh of BESS by 2030, and is projected to create more than 100 direct jobs and support more than 1,000 indirect jobs in British Columbia; the opening included a ribbon-cutting attended by federal and provincial officials and academic leaders.
• Project background and funding: the opening follows Moment Energy’s US$40 million Series B (part of >US$100 million total funding raised) and a PacifiCan $4.9 million investment; Moment Energy cites partnerships with major automakers (including Mercedes‑Benz Energy) and recent product safety and functional safety certification for its second-life battery management system.
