PJM serves record July load during extreme heat

PJM has reported that it maintained reliable operations through record-breaking July heat and served an all-time peak load on July 2.

• PJM said it reached an all-time peak load of 168,158 MW between 5–6 p.m. July 2, surpassing its previous record of 165,563 MW set on Aug. 2, 2006.
• PJM also said it used emergency procedures, including demand response and 202c emergency orders from the Department of Energy; the orders were effective July 1–6 and included authority related to data centers and other large loads.
